CUJWC:     Working     2gether

                                    4 a better community

Dear Club Friends:

Happy New Year!  I hope that you have all had an enjoyable holiday season.  I know that club did help brighten the lives of others with the dozens upon dozens of cookies that we sent to DSC for their holiday party as well as the DVD’s that were sent to The Crisis Nursery.  I want to thank you all for your acts of kindness that make Champaign-Urbana a better community.

Although the temperature outside is plummeting, things are heating up for CUJWC as we dive into the busy time of year known as The Countdown to Tom Thumb Theatre!  Rehearsals have begun, costumes are in the works, set designs are being planned, lines are being learned, and we are all beginning to hum the tunes of the songs that will be so familiar to us all by March!  I do have a plea to everyone to make a giant push for ad sales and raffle donations.  Although we do make funds from ticket sales, a large portion of our profit comes from ads and raffle ticket sales.  We need everyone to take this responsibility to heart.

Even though this is officially Tom Thumb season, we must not forget our commitment to our other projects as we continue to provide snacks for Crisis Nursery and food for Healthy Young Families.  Be sure to sign up at dinner meeting to help with these very worthwhile projects.  In the words of Elphaba from Wicked, “Think of what we could do – together.”

Volunteer Hours

Please remember to fill out an hours sheet and return to Laurie Johnson at the dinner meeting.  There is an Hours Form in the Journal, and others will be available at dinner meeting.  If you prefer, you can simply send an email to Laurie at johnsola@champaignschools.org.  We keep track of our club hours and other volunteer hours for reports that we send to Federation.  Thank you!

Juniorettes

Juniorettes currently has 13 active members. We generally meet once or twice a month to plan and work on projects, recently we helped out with the Reading is Fundamental book sorting and the DSC cookie baking.  We are looking at possibly working on putting together care packages for troops.

Juniorettes had a meeting on December 5th. The girls worked on Crisis Nursery Garden signs and donation cups for a new fundraising project. We have decided to try and raise some money for Clif Aldridge (who has been battling cancer, son of Centennial drama teacher Sue Aldridge), so we have started with basic donation cups at Centennial, to hopefully catch some change after lunch. Juniorettes is always looking for new members, the more girls we have the more we can get accomplished! The club is open to middle school/ high school age girls and anyone interested can contact Ashley Wilson at (217)721-4048 or by email at ashley@ac-cu.com. We are also looking for more service project ideas! The Junior Women’s Club representative overseeing our club is Deb Janson.
